Foyle Studio

February 2017

This project was to design and build a bespoke artists studio. The space was a derelict 17th century byre that required a new roof with skylights, mains electric and water, heating and a insulated internal space. Our aim was to maintain the original architectural features whilst creating a contemporary multifunctional space. We chose natural wooden joists to support the new roof that hide beneath the original joists. We chose to use a natural wool insulation and painted plywood panels for the internal space. We wanted to add to the story of this byre, keeping elements that indicate its age and previous uses.
